BIO

Floyd Russ focuses on the emotional truth behind his subjects and environments in a cinematic, soulful way. Born in LA and raised in Germany by a photographer and an optician, Floyd Russ grew up valuing the craft of visual storytelling. At age 11, he moved back to LA and started shooting short films at age 13. Eventually, he ended up attending UCLA Film School. After graduating, he moved to Brooklyn and spent 12 years there developing his craft and was blessed to meet my wife on a late Halloween night. His commercials have won Titanium, Glass, and Film Lions, several Clios and AICP awards, and many others. His stylistic biopic Zion premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was acquired by Netflix and shortlisted for the Oscar for Best Documentary, Short Subject and won two Emmys. Floyd’s accolades include his feature film Ayar premiering at SXSW and his docu-work for Kaiser Permanente taking home a Clio and two LA Addys. In addition to directing his hit documentary Malice at the Palace for Netflix, He just finished directing and co-executive producing a 3-part documentary-series about the Boston Marathon Bombing for Netflix that will be released in April 2023. He’s a proud father, avid football (soccer) and basketball fan, and doesn’t like to sit still.
